THE IMMORALITY OF THE SHUTDOWN

The most immoral thing about this shutdown is that in nine days the Senators, Congresspersons, the President, Vice President and white house staff will all be depositing their pay checks in their banks.

  1. That certainly doesn't seem fair, does it!

  2. My understanding is that "The Congress" passes a budget for the government. That budget is sent to the "President" who accepts it or rejects it.
If it's rejected then "The Congress" either overrides the veto or re-does the budget.
But without a budget (a state where "They" ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB) the government cannot spend money.

If the government is closed THEY ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOBS!

Time to send some emails... I know I don't have enough $$ to really get their attention but sending emails makes me feel better.

  3. Mr. Buzzard, this blog got me motivated! I sent the following email to my Rep, both my Senators and the President.

    >>Dear [This was changed depending on who I was sending it to]

Your first job in Washington DC is to keep the government running, that's done by passing a budget.

How that works is the "Congress" passes one & it is sent to the President. He either accepts it or rejects it.

If it's rejected the Congress either overrides the veto or re-does the budget. This process goes on until it's completed.

Without a budget the Government cannot spend money.

If the government is closed YOU ARE NOT DOING YOUR JOB.

    GET TO WORK!

    Sincerely,

[my name, address & email went here]

ps/ America, in the past, has done a fine job by using the concept of COMPROMISE. No one wins but the job gets done.<<

  4. Canada has a far better system. Once a budget is passed (and it covers ALL spending for the year though additional budgets may be passed in emergency) it stays in effect until a new one is passed. If a new budget isn't passed by the end of the fiscal year, then the old budget is doled out one quarter at a time. The notion of shutting down a government over money is ridiculous.
