ATHEISM IS A RELIGIOUS TERM
It is
understandable if a person wants to identify themself by their belief in a religion,
a church, a political party, an ethnicity…; but it absolutely makes no sense
that you would feel the need to identify yourself by what you do not believe.
I do not
believe in vampires, werewolves, zombies, big foot, fairies, alien autopsies,
ghost or things that go bump in the night.
I do not
believe that the world is flat or that the sun rotes around the earth.
I do not
believe that dinosaurs and humans existed at the same time
I do not
believe that a snake whispered to a woman who ate an apple which brought sin
into the world.
I do not
believe that a six-hundred-year-old man and his hundred-year-old sons built a
boat and sailed on a flood that mixed salt water and fresh water, carrying two
of every animal on earth, and that upon landing a kangaroo hopped twelve
thousand miles across three continents to go home to Australia.
I do not
believe that a child was born to a virgin.
I do not believe that statues bleed.
I do not
believe in devils and demons and angles and gods, or in a physical heaven or
hell.
I do not
believe a man god walked on water, or that a brutal human sacrifice was
performed to ‘take away the sins of the world.’
The name Atheist is a religious term that
supposes the legitimizing of religious beliefs and proposes to delegitimize anyone
that doesn’t accept the fairy tale.
If you feel
the need to attach a name to me to identify what I don’t believe in, me you
might just call me sane – I can live
with that.

THE INFALLIBILITY OF GOD - PLUS: WOMEN, CARS AND INSURANCE COMPANIES
Anyone who
has read more than one or two of my blogs probably knows that I don’t believe
in a god or angles or devils or tinker bell - even if all the children clap.
I have, all
my life, been surrounded by Christians that want to proselytize and legislate
their religious beliefs.
I do not
argue with these people because their belief is stronger than logic.
But when
asked why I don’t believe, I usually sight: women.
Christians
claim a God of all power, all knowing and all seeing; an infallible designer of
the earth, the stars, the galaxies and the solar system.
And yet, any
man who has ever accompanied his wife to a gynecologist office realizes that
women’s plumbing systems have a real design problem. They
seem to have the same road dependability as a Yugo automobile.
Women are
plagued with painful periods, irregular periods, prenatal, postnatal, uterine
cancer, breast cancer, menopause, leaks, discharges, prolapses, rashes, dryness,
urinary tract infections, pain, sensitivity, and an infinite number of things
that I will probably never understand.
If an
automobile company put out a product that broke down that often their engineers
and design teams would be fired and the company would probably go bankrupt.
Don’t get me
wrong. I love women’s nether parts and
all the bells and whistles and accompaniments that go along to make The Total
Woman. But, my point is, that if there were actually a pluperfect, infallible God
– designer of the universe – It seems He
would have been able to do a better job for women.
The Yugo automobile that sold in the
1980’s was totally undependable. The
engines were known to explode, electrical systems regularly shorted out and
parts would fall off for no reason. Many
insurances companies refused to insure Yugos.

NOT AFRAID OF BURNING IN HELL
And if there were a hell
it would be my choice
Who would want to spend eternity

DON’T CALL ME AN ATHEIST.
I
have blogged before about my resentment of the term ‘atheist.’
Why
do I need a title to denote what I do not believe in?
I
do not believe in vampires; I do not believe in werewolves; I do not believe in
the Easter bunny, I do not believe in Santa Clause; I do not believe in Bugs
Bunny and rabbits that talk; I do not believe in fairies; I do not believe in
angels; I do not believe in devils; I do
not believe in demons; and I don’t
believe in the Christian fairy tale. So
why, from this short list of the many things I do not believe in must I carry a
title to denote only one of my many disbeliefs?
I
also believe that the word ‘atheist’ somehow legitimizes the Christian
religion. It presupposes that there is
a god and that Christ was a living breathing man who pissed and shit and woke
up many days with a hard on - and was a god living on earth.
If
you don’t believe in global warming and evolution you are a ‘science denier’ –
you are guilty of ignorance of factual data and as such can be titled. But, the god and Christ fiction has no basis
in face – it requires blind faith of its followers. You don’t need a title not to buy into to
someone else’s fantasy.
Fundamentalist
religions, whether they are Muslim or Christian, are dangerous precepts. They have fanatical followers that are so convinced
of their own rightness and righteousness that they are able to justify any
atrocity in the name of their god.
Evangelicals are only one step away from the Taliban –only our laws
restrict them.
“Religion
easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told”
From:
Napalm and Sillyputty by George Carlin.
The
way I see it, there is only one drawback in denying religions: there is no one to call to during orgasm.

IN GOD WE TRUST
IN GOD WE TRUST: Give me a break.
With all the financial, social and political problems facing the United States , Congress finally decided to act: this week they passed a resolution, with only seven dissenters, confirming that the country’s motto is still IN GOD WE TRUST.
What ever happened to, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion…” This, by the way, is part of the first amendment of our Bill of Rights.
We worry about terrorism, global warming and the financial melt down; but the real threat to this country is creeping Jesus. Systematically and covertly Christian fundamentalist are moving our country toward a Christian theocracy.
In Mississippi there is a law proposed to define human life as existing from the time of conception. This law has been proposed and championed due to the fundamentalist influence that permeates Mississippi and the rest of the south. Besides outlawing abortion under any circumstances the law would also make the use of some popular birth control methods a crime; and could result in a woman using identified birth control methods being charged with murder.
At this time oral and anal sex between consenting adults is a crime in thirteen states. The religious right regularly edit our school books and in many states have passed laws insisting their religious metaphoric creationism be taught in place of, or as an alternative to, the hard science of evolution. Touting pious morality the amoral Christians have been successful in limiting aides and stem cell research. They regularly attempt to ban books and movies and they would like to censor the viewing of sexual material on the World Wide Web.
A Christian theocracy would move our country back into a new dark ages; a time of repression, ignorance and inquisition. Christian fundamentalist must have identified enemies to unite and motivate their flocks. Moslems, atheist, dead soldiers and homosexuals are their present bitter enemies. In Maine the Catholic church of Portland was the prime organizer and fund raiser that defeated the Maine Legislature’s Equal Rights Amendment. Fanatical fundamentalist populated the balcony at the State House and screamed obscenities and scripture verses at the people appearing before the legislature who testified in favor of the amendment.
To paraphrase George Carlin: The Christians are coming and they are not very nice people.

ATHEISM
Last Friday Bill Maher was prodding a Christian conservative on his program with the fact the Christians can be and have been as violent as Muslim fundamentalist. The panelist had obviously rehearsed her response before being a on his show: her answer to his taunt was that Nazi Germany and Stalin’s Russia were atheistic countries that basked in blood baths.
I am always agog at the simplistic, head in the sand bull shit these morons use to defend the violence of religion.
Again (earlier blog,) she was trying to invoking a negative: Atheism is not a religion or an organized movement with tenants to adhere to and believe in, so you can’t really identify anything as being atheist. It is simply that atheist can’t bring themselves to believe the fantastic lunacy that you are required to believe in as a member of an organized religion - a tenet of beliefs that the religious wish to inflict on all others.
Conservative arguments are usually summed up with ten second catch phrases; so I have an atheistic one for the Christian conservatives that pretty much explains atheism:
God and Jesus!
Are you nuts?
thanks to the blog Dumb Perignon for the link to the above clip.
