THE CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE

Hillary Clinton recently made the statement that ‘The Children are our Future.’   I am sick and God Damn tired of hearing politicians, Christians, and liberal do-gooders invoking’ the children are our future’ as their argument to support their agenda.

  

All the fucked up, dysfunctional, ignorant, ass holes that surround us today were ‘the children of the future’ forty years ago.’

  

And the children of today are going to be the fucked up, dysfunctional, ignorant ass holes populating the country forty years from now.

 

So give it a rest: if you have to use ‘the children are our future’ to support your argument, then your argument is probably weak.

Fuck the children - they are going to turn into adults just like us.

That being said; we all have a responsibility to make sure all children are safe, fed, clothed and protected - something the Republican Party does not give a rat's ass about once the child is post-utero.

WAR IS THE NATURAL STATE OF AFFAIRS

 

The military has taken delivery of 100 new F-35's.   This latest military boondockle, at $300,000,000 per aircraft, and a total overall cost, including maintaining each aircraft over its life time, is  estimated to be two-trillion dollars,    This weapons system alone will demand a great increase military budgeting.  

A list of America’s major wars, not counting all the conflict with American Natives that continued sporadically through the late 1800’s, shows that the natural state of the United States is war; with the time between allowing for improving weaponry, rearming and growing a new generation of cannon fodder.

A listing of our major wars is self-explanatory:

The longest times we have gone between a major war is thirty-three years, just after the Civil war, during which time we were still annihilating the Indian nations.

About the time of the First World War it became evident that war was extremely profitable.    The United States built planes, tanks, vehicles and arms at an astounding rate.   Manufacturing firms were over loaded with demands for war supplies.  

After the World War One the United States decided to improve its military weaponry.  The government begun funding research to improve tanks, military aircraft, guns and munitions.  People working in the military industrial complex were prideful of their patriotic employment.  

Barely twenty years later we were back in a major World War.   The military industrial complex fired up production and the whole nation supported the resulting recession as funds were diverted to war: both the cost of war and the hardware necessary to conduct it. 

It is easy to see that regular people have very little to say about the course of the Nation.  Congress either does nothing, or enacts laws contrary to the ideals of the majority.     This is because Congress is bought and paid for by ‘business leaders’ and companies, many that make their fortunes from America’s obsession with all things military. 

Do you actually think that General Dynamics cared that the tanks the US furnished the Iraqi army were abandon and turned over to ISIS, requiring new tanks be purchased to rearm the Iraqis?   The same for the guns and weapons and vehicles left for ISIS, requiring rearmament of the ‘new’ Iraqi army.  

Do you think munitions manufacturers are sorry that a bombing campaign is going on in Syria; or that the war has stretched on in Afghanistan and Iraq for 14 years?

I remember ‘the joke’ in Vietnam: you can tell the North Vietnamese from the South Vietnamese army because the North only have fifty-percent American made weapons. 

War expenditures are the grease that oils the economy.   Nearly every manufacturing job depends heavily on military contracts.   Except for Bush’s tax cuts and deregulation of the banking industry this country would be in an economic war boom.  

From small businesses making circuit boards to major companies turning out complex aircraft, war business is booming.  

Unfortunately, the profits stay with investors and dont trickle down.   

So let’s not fool ourselves, we are a Nation of War - a Nation of perpetual War.   War is the natural state of the state of this Union, and our whole American economy rest with the military industrial complex.

War is the economic base of this country; this is why we spend more on military than the next eight largest militarized countries combined - and why we justify the United States as the police for the world.

SCALIA IS DEAD. NOW THE REPUBLICAN SPIN STARTS

Today on Meet the Press Ted Cruz coined the talking points that we will here throughout the rest of the election campaign.   

When interviewed by Chuck Todd, Cruz said that if Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders is elected President and get to appoint the replacement of Scalia:

The Second Amendment will be written out of the constitution.

There will be abortion on demand.

Religious liberties will be torn down.

Veteran's memorials will be torn down. 

The Star of David and Crosses will be sandblasted of the tombs of our fallen veterans.  

It doesn't have to make sense, so this is what the Republican idiot base will be fed for the  next ten months.   They will want to see the viewers of Fox and Friends and Glen Beck followers frothing at the mouth before the election.

As generations age and die we are losing the old hard core, covert racist that lived before integration - and Scalia is in that category.

We only need to look at one of Scalia's recent Court explanations to see the real man beneath the robe.

Bernie Sanders should state at the next debate that if elected he will consider either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama for the bench;   and Hillary Clinton should return by saying that she would consider Bernie Sanders or Barack Obama.   Then both should ponder Elizabeth Warren.

I know this is not zen..  not Buddhist; but I couldn't help but do a little war dance when the breaking news was announced on my computer.   I don't wish anybody dead, but sometimes you are not sorry when certain people expire - I'm of that age and could be next - but this man was a radical ideologue passed his sell by date in a position with too much authority.  

What are the chances that the Republican Congress will allow President Obama to replace Scalia before his term is up?

When we were younger I use to laugh with my cousin that the old people we knew seemed to only talk about the weather or their illnesses when they got together.

Well now I'm fucking old.  I am not on the make, I am not partying, I am not traveling, I am not having wild adventures, so I claim the right to talk about the weather (I'll spare you my aches and pains.)  

  Yesterday (February 12th.) the high temperature was 9 degrees; today the forecast is for 13 degrees; tomorrow 2 degrees, the next day 23 degrees and the next 46 degrees - what the fuck?

This is February, Maine's deep freeze month; to wear long johns or not to wear long johns - I've never had to make that decision before...   I'll just keep on the long johns and complain.

The Prime Minister of Israel publicly disses our President.   Israel refuses to compromise in its dealings with the Palestinians in a peaceful two state solution.

According to a correspondent on political affairs at Haaretz, senior officials within the Obama administration recently confirmed speculations that Israel receives more than 50 per cent of the aid given by the US globally each year. In fact, the majority of the US aid given to Israel was so that the Israel could defend itself against the Iranian nuclear threat, which has since diminished after the nuclear deal was signed. And yet, as a result of this deal, a serious discussion has begun between the two sides: the US and Israel. Israeli Minister of Defence Moshe Ya’alon placed Israel’s demands on the table in Washington and the ball is new in America’s court as Israel is currently fearful of the US changing its preference from offensive weapons to defensive ones.   

Fifty percent of our foreign aid goes to Israel - who knew?    Notice the part about Israel's demands.

According to an article published by the US-based publication the Christian Science Monitor in 2002, Israel had cost the United States more than $1.6 trillion since 1973, which means that every US citizen had paid $5,700 to Israel according to the US’s population. According to economic specialist Thomas Stover, who is currently based in Washington, the total cost of US military and economic support embodied in the figure mentioned above is more than double the cost of the Vietnam War. It is well known that Stover has angered many Jews over the last few decades due to his research on the Middle East conflict.

Now Netanyahu says he may not meet with the US President until after the next election.  

This pisses me off.   We have failing infrastructure here in the US, we have an outmoded rail system, our deficit is through the roof, Congress squabbles over funding social programs, and we are pumping money into Israel without so much as a thank you.

MY FRIEND AND ACQUAINTANCE SHERLOCK HOLMES

Sherlock Holmes has been an acquaintance of mine for many years:  Like a friend I had growing up with, moved away, but still keep in touch with at sporadic intervals.  

I am a member, at large, of The Occupants of the Empty House, a scion society of the Baker Street Irregulars.

My first introduction to Holmes was in the school library in my early teens when I read The Speckled Band.    It was many years before I could obtain the complete works, but over the years I reveled in finding new adventures which I would read over and over. 

A Study in Scarlet was my first purchase, and I remember underlining Watson’s observation of Holmes:

“My surprise reached a climax, however, when I found incidentally that he was ignorant of the Copernican Theory and of the composition of the Solar System.   That any civilized human being in this nineteenth century should not be aware that the earth travelled round the sun appeared to be to me such an extraordinary fact that I could hardly realize it.

 

‘You appear to be astonished,’ he said, smiling at my expression of surprise.   ‘Now that I do know it I shall do my best to forget it.’

‘To forget it!’

‘You see,’ he explained, ‘I consider that a man’s brain originally is like a little empty attic, and you have to stock it with furniture as you choose.  A fool takes in all lumber of every sort that he comes across, so that the knowledge which might be useful to him gets crowded out…….   It is a mistake to think that that little room has elastic walls and can distend to any extent.  Depend upon it there comes a time when for every addition of knowledge you forget something that you knew before.”

What a revelation!   However, since that time I have stocked my attic with such miscellaneous trivia that now, when my attic is full, I can afford to lose prior knowledge without any remarkable results.

SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE EARLY HOURS OF UNREASON

A THREE PIPE PROBLEM

I have been a Sherlock Holmes devotee since my earliest teen years.    I have read and reread the stories many times, and am still today fascinated anew.

I woke up this morning about four a.m. with an annoying headache.  I tossed and turned and tried to get back to sleep.  I coughed and sniffled and lay awake for about an hour; all the time my monkey mind running random thoughts through my conscious/subconscious.  

I recently read an article about the life of Arthur Conan Doyle.   I find it strange that the man who penned the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the epitome of logic, would spend the last thirteen years of his life proclaiming the existence of fairies, ghost, an afterlife and communication with the dead.    

As Sherlock Holmes said in The Read-Headed League; this is a three pipe problem.

I see this as an example of the so called atheist in the fox hole – where some people approaching the end of life, and unable to accept the reality of death, cast about for any assurance that their life will not end.

This was totally illogical from an otherwise logical mind – a ‘want’ to confer the existence of magic over logic.   Immortality: the same thing that religions have been peddling to the punters from the earliest times. 

When the hour is early, the house is quiet, my wife and the cats are asleep; to stop the cacophony of the idiot monkeys I find it easier to take a single thought to a conclusion – in writing.

FIFTY DEGREES ON FEBRUARY 4, 2016 IN MAINE – WHAT THE FUCK

Temps above normal for the past two weeks.  Snow melts in during

 the day and freezes at night. 

We still have snow on the ground

But it thaws during the day and freezes at night

Ending up with a driveway of ice.

More normal winter weather is suppose to start tomorrow.

THERE’S A SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE

The P.T. Barnum of Republican Presidential candidates came in second in fundamentalist Christian Iowa to the fundamentalist Christian Ted Cruz. 

 This should not be a surprise because Trump’s real supporters are blue color works and Tea Party nuts who “Want to take their country back.”

Hear we have a man whose father was a multi-millionaire.   Trump was born to privilege.    As a young man he behaved like the affluenza teen, so his father placed him in an exclusive military prep school.   

Then Trump was off to an Ivy League College and finally to one of the most expensive business schools in the world.   

Upon graduation Trump’s father gave him one million dollars seed money to start a business.     

This is the same show business huckster who could raise six million dollars in donations in two days from wealthy friends for his ‘Wounded Warrior’ extravaganza opposite the last Republican debate. 

And let’s not forget Trump’s most famous line is ‘You’re Fired.’ 

This is the man that ‘Working Men Vote Republican’ believe will look out for them if elected President.

There is really a sucker born every minute, and they end up in the base of the Republican Party.
