I love Canada. I spent two years in Newfoundland back when Joey Smallwood was Premier. I have traveled through every Province. I have worked with Canadian Forces and been through their Winter Bush Survival School.
But; Canadian bacon is not BACON!
The Ol'Buzzard
I'd imagine they have regular bacon... They don't call it American bacon do they? :-)
ReplyDeleteWe don't call it Canadian bacon, we call it BACK bacon. The other type of bacon is SIDE bacon which is much fattier. Back bacon is lean. IT IS NOT HAM, NO MATTER WHAT YOU AMERICANS THINK! hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI was raised by my grandparents down south and my grandmother used to cook Fat Back for flavoring. it was cut from the pig's back. Surely that is different than BACK Bacon...because it definitely ain't lean...not to mention, uber salty.
DeleteYou're right, Fat Back is entirely different.
DeleteIT"S HAM!!!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Ol'B. You've just verbalized what we've all been thinking...all these years.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, we don't even call it Canadian bacon. Our bacon, what we call bacon, is exactly like your bacon - the long thin strips that look and taste like bacon. The only people who call Canadian bacon Canadian bacon are Americans. We would call it back bacon, or if it has cornmeal on the outside, peameal bacon. Amen. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteI don't care what they call it..it's great on pizza
ReplyDeleteLOL back bacon is good on certain things but a regular old bacon strip or 20 is the best. Did you eat 'Newfie Steak' while in Newfoundland?
ReplyDeleteNot sure about Newfie Steak, but I had lots of fish and brews (not sure of the spelling) also seal flipper - not my favorite.. red meat that taste like fish.
DeleteActually back bacon which goes great with Canadian beer.
