THE TRUTH ABOUT THE VIETNAM WAR

I feel sorry for my brothers in arms who wear a ball cap proclaiming their Vietnam service, as if that was the high point of their lives.

No one chose to be there.  No one was killed or wounded by choice. 58,000 died, and most of those were between the ages of 18 and 25.

And that 58,000 number was probably a low-ball number manipulated by the government; not an actual count; not accounting for people who later died from war wounds, injuries, toxic poisoning, and suicide…  I am sure the number would be well over 100,000.

Ask a Vietnam vet why he was there, and he can’t tell you.  It was politicians moving around pieces on a checker board, and vets were the expendable pieces.

We weren’t there to support a democratic government in the south.  We were there to establish and support the Tan Son Nhut Air Base, giving us a nuclear threat presence on the southern border of China.   It was all about China.  It was geopolitical politics.

China did not want an American nuclear presence on its southern border any more than we wanted a Russian nuclear presence in Cuba, on our southern border.

We could have, at any time, moved into the north and taken Hanoi, but that would have brought China into the war.

China did not want open war with the US any more than we wanted war with China, so we armed the south, they armed the north, and we fought to a stalemate that, for fifteen years, maintained a status quo, allowing us to maintain the geographic nuclear threat on the Chinese southern border.

Finally, the death toll of American forces became too much to hide, and anti-war activism threatened the politicians in office; so we retreated with our tails between our legs – we surrendered the war – we accepted our death toll as having accomplished nothing, cut our losses, and came home ignobly.

A Vietnam vet wearing a hat proclaiming his service is equivalent to a rape victim wearing a hat with a picture of her rapist.

WE were both violently fucked.

WHY DOES AMERICA HAVE A FIXATION ON GUNS?

The answer is easy. We are a warrior nation. In our 249-year history, 150 years have been spent fighting declared wars. When we add peacekeeping missions, invasions, naval campaigns, rebellions, occupations, operations, and interventions, it would be safe to say that there has never been a time when American military forces were not in combat status somewhere on the glove.

American Revolution: 1775-1783

Barbary War: 1801-1805

Mexican-American War: 1846-1848

Opium War: 1856-1859

Civil War: 1861-1865

Spanish American War: 1898

Philippine War: 1899-1902

Boxer Rebellion: 1899-1901

Mexican Border War: 1910-1919

WW-I: 1914-1918

WW-II: 1939-1945

Korean War: 1950-1953

Vietnam War: 1965-1975

Gulf War: 1990-1991

Afghanistan War: 2001-2021

Iraq War: 2003-2011

The Indian Wars alone lasted 81 years, from 1817-1898

We glorify our military and celebrate our veterans.  They are our heroes, our knights of the realm.

Is it any wonder that posers, insecure in their manhood, line up to purchase AKs and dress up in military garb?

In this society, the gun is the man.

WAR IN THE MIDDLE EAST

God damn, I’m old – but against the odds, I’m still here.   The avatar for old men is Homer Simson’s father - and that pretty much suits me.

I have seen it all, and it all replays over and over again.

War in the Middle East, so what’s fucking new?   The only other species that regularly make war and genocide against its kind are Chimpanzees, our first cousins in the animal kingdom.

We share 98% of our DNA

In the United States, peace is just the interval between wars.   We spend more on our military than the next five major militarized countries combined, yet we haven’t won a war since World War Two.

We stalemated in Korea, and we lost in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan; and all the scrimmages in between produced nothing.

The root of all wars can be summarized as:

My God is better than your God, and my dick is bigger than your dick (women don’t start wars.)

I despise Donald Trump, especially because of his disrespect for the military.    Among other things, he called the dead at the Arlington National Cemetery losers.  But tangentially, these young men and women died, before they had a chance to live and love; meanwhile, politicians move us on to the next war, and the next, and the next…

I spent 22 years in the military, a Vietnam vet.  I have seen what the war shredder does to young men and women psyched on patriotism and glory.  I was one of them.   They too often die young and are mutilated physically and mentally.

Life is too precious.  We are here by chance and only go around one time.   Young people have a right to grow old, to have adventures, to love and be loved, and to bask in the beauty of nature.  Wars and the military can steal the right away.  No country and no God is worth dying for.

War! What is it good for?  Absolutely nothing.

I DON’T CELEBRATE VETERANS DAY

I hate being told, ‘Thank you for your service.

58,479 Americans died in the Vietnam war - and that is the official count.   It doesn’t include the brothers that later died from Agent Orange exposure, suicide, related injuries – not to mention the maimed and mentally injured.

One 18-year-old young man I knew took five rounds in his stomach.  He was engaged to be married to a young girl before deployment, but in the hospital he was told he would have to wear a colostomy bag for the rest of his life.  He cried constantly.  I don’t know what happened to him.

Another friend I use to ride with in Florida we called Choo-Choo.  He had been shot when his group was overrun by VC.  He played dead while they searched him.  The next day he was recovered and placed on the skirt of a tank to be taken back to base area.   He fell off the tank and it was another day before he was discovered and taken to the field hospital.   Sometimes when we were out drinking together Choo-Choo’s eyes would roll up in his head, he would fall on the floor drooling and make a noise: choo choo choo…   I always believed he was hearing the tank treads in his head.

What did we accomplish in Vietnam?  We left North Vietnam the most advanced armed country with American military weapons in South East Asia…. and we built a wall in Washington D.C.

Fuck war

Fuck celebrating war

AMERICA INC.

I am not a flag waving, standing at attention, patriotic American.   The Vietnam war ruined that for me.

It is quite obvious that a country based on capitalism sees its citizens as something to be manipulated.

Don’t get me wrong; America has more personal freedom then many countries and less than others, but a government of the people, by the people and for the people, we ain’t.

We are offered the allusion of a democracy; but if that were true the President would not be elected by an Electoral College or appointed by a Supreme Court.

Capitalism creates a plutocracy, where only the wealthy, or those supported by the wealthy, can afford to run for public office; a National Chamber of Commerce under a red white and blue flag.

And, a plutocracy is what we have always been.

Until now.

Looking at the appointments of Donald Trump (President-not-elected) the country is on the final step  of metamorphosing into a business organization, where the organization – the bottom line - openly takes precedence over people.

Just my observation
