IF YOU ARE WALKING ON THIN ICE, YOU MAY AS WELL DANCE

 

The world is mad.  But in my memory, the world has always been mad.

  

There is anarchy in the country – there has always been anarchy in the country.

 

There are violent people in the world – there have always been violent people in the world

 

There is social unrest – there has always been social unrest.

 

Political groups don’t cooperate, so nothing gets done, except the rich get richer – it has always been that way.

 

There is war on the horizon – there has always been war on the horizon when we are in the interlude between wars.

      

This is the normal chaotic human condition.

  

The human race is the despicable alpha predator of this earth era.  As individuals we are amiable enough, but as a species we are deadly.   Our only saving grace is that somewhere in that 3% DNA that we differ with our first cousins, chimpanzees, we have been able to create music, art and literature.   

 

Listen to the Ol’Buzzard: There is not a fucking thing, as individuals, we can do about the chaotic condition of the world we live in.  We can try to ignore the crazy; or get caught up in the crazy, obsess about the crazy, and go crazy. 

 

Today is yesterday’s tomorrow.  We are all allotted three score and ten on this earth, and as we get toward the end, we realize how much of our time has been squandered.   What a wonderful thing life is, but it is finite.    The beautiful things we ignore, as we are caught up in the chaos of our species, we can’t go back and retrieve.

 

So what is the answer?  There is no answer.   You put your right foot in, you put your right foot our, you put your right foot in and you shake it all about. You do the hokey-pokey and you turn yourself around.   That’s what it’s all about!

THE HITCHHIKERS GUIDE TO THE GALAXY

The world of politics is absolutely exhausting.  An incompetent President and complicit Republican Party, along with twenty-four-seven news, warning of impending disaster…

While back in my real world I just finished building a new set of back porch steps, I have changed the oil in my snow blower and stored my lawn mower away for the year.   My fire wood is in, my oil and LP gas tank are filled: winter is coming…

I tell myself I shouldn’t be concerned about the disintegrations of the country I have known for eight decades, because I am not going to live into the dystopian future.   So, it can all go to hell in a handbag; and it is someone’s else’s problem. 

Riding through the foot hills of western Maine today was existing in a world of such vivid color that my sensory synapses were almost overloaded.   What a gorgeous place to live in. 

  

Thursday, a rain and wind storm will come through our area and the trees will be stripped bare.   It won’t be long until the first virgin snow covers the land turning the world to black and white.

What a downer listening to the news.

Individual.   Society.   Individual.   Society.   Individual.  Society. 

What a cluster fuck society is: a social disorder of sound and fury signifying nothing. 

I am really pleased with my new back steps.

We Americans are happy to be uninformed of conditions throughout the world that  don't effect us directly or have some salacious story or massive death tole.

A MUST READ

Being an educator I have always said that if you want to know what goes on in schools ask a teacher.   In the same light if you want to know what is going on in Russia and the pressing dangers in that part of the world you should hear from someone who lives there and views the situation first hand.

The BLOG FODDER is a Canadian married to a Ukrainian and living in the Ukraine.  He views the situation there from first hand experience, but with a separation that allows a unique perspective.

His recent post should be a must read.   While we here in the U.S. are focused with tunnel vision on the Middle East, Russia is reverting to its old Communist roots.  As a reminder, we should remember that Russia is still in possession of the second largest nuclear stockpile of weapons in the world. 

And while we celebrate our holidays with flags and barbecues and floats of Minions and Spiderman, Russia is parading tanks, missile launchers, armored vehicles and military troop formations. 

Perhaps our focus is in the wrong part of the world.

THE MAD HATTER'S TEA PARTY

We are all wound up over the state of human insanity in our world and we tend to express our discontent on what Rachel Maddow calls the internet machine.    But all of this will end in a predictable way.   We will remain incense; meanwhile we grow old, infirm, diseased or injured and then we all die. 

We get put in the ground, we get cremated, we get sky burial or some not so lovable love one flushes us down the toilet.

And then generations pass and people will be wound up over the human insanity in the world: liberals will be disgusted with the way the rich are treating the poor; and people with hearts and brains will be protesting the next war; Christians will be bigoted against their next perceived enemy; while politicians placate the factions in power in order to retain their exulted station.

The world is constantly moving – there is constant change; but everything stays the same.

Meanwhile Mother Earth presents us with an opportunity to witness astounding splendor – if we would only disconnect and observe. 

  

In two weeks we will experience the Spring Equinox.   This is a magical time when the day and the night are equal in duration and the earth moves from Winter into Spring in our hemisphere.  

This should be a time of celebration: a time when we stop what we are doing for a couple of days and stand in awe at the transformation that is taking place on our world.   This is a time that we should be aware of our own insignificance and marvel at the miracle that is the accident of our existence.   Once people lit bonfires and danced through the night…

Now we are too busy – or too preoccupied with the absurdities of our own making.

Spring Equinox: March 20^th.    First day of Spring – March 21^st.
