CLICHES

I am guilty of using cliches.   It seems they are an engrained part of our common speech.  I don’t have a dog in this fight’ is one I have used often and in hindsight that is regrettable.  Any animals barbarically killed for human entertainment is an atrocity.  That replacement, from now on, will be: It ain’t my circus, it ain’t my monkey.     I really like that.   Along with: What do you expect?  I’m fucking old.

  1. Yes, we often use cliches without thinking very much about what they really say.

  2. I would think it is still fine to use the “dog” alliteration. It has its own meaning now outside of its origins. I do like your new one too, though.

  3. My friend Sveta who married a Canadian friend and has lived in Canada many years now always says, when she screws up an English expression, "I'm just a foreigner". Her English is better than mine but it is a handy excuse. I am old has worked for me many times too.

  4. I've never heard your dog expression or the monkey expression. Not keen on either really. Monkeys don't belong in a circus either.
