THE BUDDHIST ANSWER TO DONALD TRUMP

 

 

Five hundred years before the birth of Christianity, the Buddha was preaching that dissatisfaction in our daily existence would cause our life to be like a wheel out of balance: Dukkha.

 

The basic premise of Buddhism is known as the Four Truths.   

1.      There will always be conditions in life that we have no control over.

2.     If we obsess on these conditions, we will be despondent.

3.     We must acknowledge to ourselves that these conditions are beyond our control.

4.      We must move on to focus on the beauty in the present day, the present life, and live it to the fullest in the NOW.

 

These Truths can be molded to fit many concerns in our Western society.   They are particularly relevant in the age of Trump and the coming election.  

 

Every voter, except the few morons seeking attention, have already made up their mind who they will vote for – it is in stone.   Nothing we can say, nothing Biden and Harris can say, nothing Trump can say is going to change anyone’s mind at this point.  We can only wait until November 3^rd. and cast our vote.  The outcome will be what it will be.  What Trump does if he loses is beyond out control.   

 

So, it is time to turn off the daily, 24/7 outrageous Trump, Trump, Trump TV news programs.  We can stay abreast with news papers and online news without the saturation of TV, and move on to other activities more healthful.

 

Constant mental dishevel affects the physical body negatively.    A constant, daily diet of Trump is not good for any of us.

NERO FIDDLES WHILE ROME BURNS

 

I find it difficult to blog my trivial thoughts at a time when the world seems to be going to pot.

 

A two-hundred-thirty-year-old democracy is systematically being dismantled by an ignorant, racist, bigoted, egocentric, would-be tin pot dictator that is fanatically loved and supported by forty-seven percent of the population.    Hitler was elected in a free and fair election.

 

The world is in the midst of a plague that so far has resulted in two-hundred-thousand deaths in the United States and over a million deaths world-wide, and has not yet crested.

 

The world climate has finally reached a tipping point brought about by human over pollution.   The arctic ice, Greenland icecap and Antarctic ice shelves are melting and calving at an alarming rate.    Climate change is visible across the country, with devastating forest fires in the west, increased hurricane activity in the Atlantic, increased droughts and tornado activity, and animal migration moving north.

 

Religious cults are waring, killing, murdering and trying to covertly insert their bigoted and pious doctrines into public policy and government rule.

 

Where in the hell is that fucking meteor that will plummet into earth and perform a reset, and rid the world of this despicable and destructive species?

I HAVE COMMITED MYSELF TO THE ASYLUM TO GET AWAY FROM THE INSANE

 

 

There comes a time when a man realizes his mortality.   Being an octogenarian, what ever the fuck that means, I have come to the realization that a life style change is in order.

  

I am still in great shape for my age, but I realize that I am well past my sell-by-date and I need to make adjustments for my young wife.   She would not be able to maintain our home in the woods; heating with firewood, snow removal, house and yard maintenance etc.  when I no longer exist.  

 

We have purchased a manufactured home and placed it in a small park of mostly retired seniors.  

 

That said, we had our TV disconnected from cable a month ago at the beginning of our move.    For one month we have had no television.   We listen to Maine Public Radio and Maine Public Classical for most of the day, and at night watch a Netflix or Britbox movie.  

 

No Trump for a month.   It has been glorious; no daily outrage followed by another the next day and another the next day…  

 

No lies, outrageous comments, assaults on our democratic society, racist rants or bigoty on a daily basis, screamed by a would-be dictator who is totally unfit for his job as President of the United States.  

 

We have purchased a ‘smart TV’ and I managed to mount it a few days ago.   We can now watch Netflix and Britbox on a large screen in our living room.   The down side is that my wife wants HULU which carries MSNBC.    I dread the intrusion this will be on our new peaceful life.  

 

 

AN ASIDE:   Cable television in our area cost $150 plus, and I can stream Netflix, Britbox and Hulu for around $75.   This gives me two movie channels and with HULU I will be able to access the local channels and all the channels we would watch on cable. 

 

 

ON THE UPSIDE:  Marijuana sales will be legal in Maine on the eighth of this month.
