GOING IN FOR CAR REPAIR
Remember when you could lock bumpers and push another car down the road without sustaining damage to either car?
They just don't make them like this any more.
I slid into a snow bank at five miles an hour and damaged my car's plastic bumper. A $500 ding.

DAYUM! Somehow I wish we could have cars like we used to have but then the gas mileage would really suck. Cars are a lot lighter today. I think that's why I have my low level flying pilots license. But there are other reasons for that. David would have to explain it to you.
ReplyDeleteI effen HATE plastic bumpers. They're just a get-rich-quick-scheme for auto repair shops and manufacturers of spare parts.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, if you were in an accident in that early '50s tank, you'd be dinged, too, because there were no seatbelts and most of the exposed interior surfaces were metal. Whiplash and some cracked ribs even at low speeds; crushing chest trauma from slamming into the steering wheel if you were in a collision going faster. All that plastic in modern cars does a much better job of absorbing the energy from an impact before it reaches you than the metal in the old lead sleds did.
ReplyDeleteBTW, we have a Chevy of about that vintage parked in our field. It's restoreable, although it's missing a few pieces and a person would have to evict the mice and squirrels from the seats. If you really want a 1950's tank, we can sell you one.
