THE OL’BUZZARD CALLS
BULLSHIT.
Fact: Low paying retailers hire the minimum number people
necessary to move their product.
If Burger King needs X-number
of people to wait on the public – and they raise salaries to a new minimum wage
level – this will not result in Burger King firing employees. They will still need the same number of
people to serve the public. It will just
cause an increase in the price of a hamburger.
No one will complain – the demand will continue, the public will still
eat hamburgers.
Republicans oppose minimum
wage increases because they have extreme contempt for poor people. The plight of the poor is a constant
diversion from the policies and programs that benefit the wealthy. The poor are viewed as leaches on society whose
only useful purpose should be to fill the ranks of menial labor.
The ideal solution for Republicans
would be to establish labor camps to extract fair labor for government
welfare. Like capital punishment and stand
your ground gun regulations, labor camps could be a rallying point for the Tea
Party and the fundamentalist Christian base.
It is not about politics – it
is about an oligarchy class and their minions manipulating the radical, the uninformed
and ignorant in order to consolidate their own power.
And poor people: “Let them
eat cake.”
The Ol’Buzzard
Greed fuels bad logic, or rather, the greedy manipulate logic to justify their greed. That's why unions are bad, public education is bad, public assistance is bad, health care is bad. But, what is really happening? By dumbing down America, trying to destroy any health care program, calling public assistance socialism, destroying the internet, the greedy are destroying the fabric of America. That's why American health statistics are right down there with some of the lowest in the third world. It's almost as if the oligarchs in America are trying to create a work force to compete with the Chinese exploited work force in Africa, as the Africans are trying to pull themselves up, America is dragging itself down. I don't think that the very concept of capitalism is inherently evil, I think there are very different definitions and kinds of capitalism. By the way, the let them eat cake quote by Marie Antoinette is an exaggerated legend. She never said that, She might have referred to brioche, lightly toasted with creme fraiche and strawberries, but cake? Jamais!
ReplyDeleteThe powers-that-be can't stand prosperity. If the workers at the bottom end of the scale had more money they would spend it and that would increase demand which would increase employment and profits. But it's more satisfying for the Uber-rich to squeeze the money out of the workers. After all, some asshole in the 19th century said the business model should be to pay the workers as little as possible to keep them hungry so they will come to work every day just to survive!!
ReplyDeletewe have good examples Canada and Australia who have higher wages and they're doing fine..especially Australia.
