Mike Moore of Missouri wants the statue of the Roman god Ceres (god of farming)
removed from the dome of the Missouri state capitol. The statue has been on the dome since
1924. Moore says that since statues of
Jesus are barred from public buildings, the statue of a Pagan god should be
removed.
The Netflix
Christmas special, The First Temptation of Christ, which portrays Jesus
as gay, has outraged people in Brazil.
There are calls for the comedy’s creator to be arrested for
blasphemy.
Nearly two million Brazilians
signed a petition asking Netflix to ban the show.

Ceres is a goddess, not a male god. Probably even worse in their eyes!
ReplyDeleteMissouri just finished giving Ceres a thorough cleaning. The state has been working on the capitol building and took Ceres down to spiffy her up. She's looking good at the moment. Given that she symbolizes agriculture, does the desire to keep her down permanently mean farming no longer matters in the Show Me state?
ReplyDeleteI really am not fond of removal of statues of any sort that were of a public nature. Art is important.

I've long-ago burned out on and have gotten tired of all this obsessiveness with "one's sexual orientation" stuff
ReplyDelete...it's just as bad as all the long-standing religious obsessions that have plagued societies for centuries, even if its plague has only been around a few decades now.
