What the hell is going on with Blogger?

I usually type my post in Microsoft Word and cut and paste to my blog.  Today when I paste my post it appeared on white background strips.   I had to select Text Background Color icon and choose black background in order for my post to conform to my template.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

this sux as it messes with the color of fount I choose.

A VEILED CALL FOR PRESIDENTIAL ASSASINATION.

 “An article on Huffington Post grabbed my attention this morning, and I'm still sitting here shaking my head at the treasonous behavior of some in today's GOP.  
        A Greene County Republican Committee newsletter that was published back in March included an essay by the newsletter's editor, one Ponch McPhee, in which he called President Obama "America’s Most Biblically-Hostile U. S. President" and urged patriotic Republicans to take up arms against the government should Obama win reelection.”

I read this as a blatant call for violence against our President.

We often hear TV and talk radio Republican talking heads comparing the extreme right of their party and the extreme left of the Democratic Party as both equally radical in their diatribes.   

This is not a correct comparison: the extreme right of the Republican Party has a vitriol that is poisonous and dangerous and does not exist in the extreme left.   The Right Wing of the Republican Party (including the Tea Party) attracts militia nut cases, the KKK, skin heads and other organizations that advocate violence.   This contingent of the party contains unstable gun carrying fanatics capable of killing abortion doctors and shooting politicians they do not agree with.   These people, constantly goaded by Fox News and talk radio, are unstable, delusional and damn right dangerous.

The fact is that the party has moved so far to the right extreme, that the Texas governor (Rick Perry), who publicly announced that he considered Texas secession from the United States as plausible possibility and who has been filmed shooting his pistol into the air at a political gathering, became one of the Presidential candidates for the Republican Party

Equally bothering is that Republican Senators and Congressmen do not come out and denounce this violent rhetoric, and that mainstream TV news shows do not highlight these right wing dangerous psychopaths and tie them to the Party. 

The Republican supported newsletter that published this article against President Obama is the type of officially approved rant the feeds the frenzy.  

I fear for President Obama every time he appears publicly in the South.

This may sound like an unfair attack against the South.  It is not.  It is an observation.  I was raised in Kentucky and Mississippi and I know the religious ignorance that permeate the south and encourages anti-liberal fanaticism. 

This is not the first Democratic President to face such southern racist hatred. 

In Stephen King’s novel 11/22/63 King documents the hatred that was publicly displayed in Dallas toward President Kennedy on the day of his assassination.   American flags flew upside down at the airport; and earlier Adlai Stevenson and Lady Bird Johnson had been subjected to a spit shower from a group of protesting middle class housewives.  The Dallas police were complicit by looking the other way.

This is an especially dangerous time for our President as the lunatic fringe of the far right sees his reelection as a biblical offense leading to the destruction of their racially pure America.

If an assassination attempt takes place against the first black President of the United States it will be the lowest point in our National history since the Civil War.

Though they will try to distance themselves, the leaders of the Republican Party will be complicit.   It will be an event that was encouraged by Republican propagandist TV and talk radio outlets (including Fox News and Rush Limbaugh)   and it will have taken place because the leaders of the party encouraged the rhetoric and chose not to denounce the lies and vitriol promulgated against this President.

A SQUIRREL'S TALE

I spend so much money on bird food that I sometimes feel I should be able to claim the local bird population as dependents on my tax return (along with our cat.)    Everyone who feeds birds eventually has to come to terms with squirrels raiding the bird feeders.   Needless to say my squirrels eat good.  


But, I have found a solution that seems to be working.  I have mounted a 3-inch stove pipe around the base of my stand-alone feeder.   The squirrels still feed on the seeds dropped by the birds but they are no longer climb upon the feeder.

I also have found a solution for ants on my humming bird feeder: I grease a two foot section of my metal upright feeder stand with wheel grease (Vaseline will work as well.)   If you hang your feeder, hang it from a wire and grease the wire.  

Many bird lovers are concerned about predators.  I have a falcon that occasionally visits my yard and takes doves (for some reason that seems to be his bird of choice.)   Cats can also be a problem.   We must remember that we too are predators.   We kill for food and we kill for sport (we even kill for religion and natural resources) - therefore we shouldn't get too sanctimonious about predation.

THE ELECTRIC MIND

I lay awake this morning thinking of the past – at this point I have far more past the future.    I thought of all the crossroads I have transited in my life and the path I took at each juncture.   The thousands of decisions I have made that presented alternate outcomes and would have resulted in entirely different futures.  

This isn’t sour grapes – I am content with who I am; but the man I am is the result of a chain of decisions that led to other decisions that led to other decisions – now here I am.   

We are not who we are by design, but who we are by chance.  The world we exist in is the product of Chaos: A butterfly in Brazil flapping its wings results in a storm in the Atlantic.

A thousand choices I have made

Each a bifurcation to diverse outcomes

Each leading to entirely different futures

A chain of events that’s totally random

ACCIDENTAL

The man I am - accident of birth

A product of a random sexual selection

Our entire world has resulted from happenstance

Once Mars was very much like Earth

SEX IN THE MORNING - IT'S A MALE THING?

One reason I know that some all powerful God didn’t create man, is that men and women are basically so incompatible.  

I recently saw a chart about male and female sexual response.   It seems that males are most ardent in the morning and their curve decreases throughout the day ebbing at night; where as, women are at their lowest receptivity in the morning and increase to their peak at night.  The curves intersect at around 4 p.m. as the optimal time when both are equally responsive.  

I think this curve is probably correct, as I wake up (as do most boys and men) randy – though I would never turn down the offer at night.

Occasionally, when I wake in the morning and my wife is asleep with her back to me, I will quietly sidle over to her side of the bed, snuggle up conforming my body to her's, move my hips a little bit, put my arms around her and try to take hold of one of the girls – then I’ll whisper: How about a little morning delight…sunrise loving…roll in the hay…poke in the whiskers… jump your bones…a quickie…    Then suddenly I will get an elbow to the ribs or a fist to the stomach or a kick on the shins.  

My question is: Is this elder abuse?   And if so, do you think I could parlay (black mail) it into a blow job?  

I’m just asking.

EXXON FOR PRESIDENT.

According to Citizens United v Federal Election Comission corporations are viewed as persons – with all the same rights to donate to campaigns as any individual.   

Romney said that corporations are people.

I am just wondering:

If it can be determined that a corporation was conceived and born in the United States could we apply for a birth certificate, and if so could we run a corporation for President? 

This would surely cut out all the red tap.   Why nominate a proxy of big business for President?   Just go for the real thing.

TO MEAT OR NOT TO MEAT - THAT IS THE QUESTION

On a recent post from Blog Fodder, a beef expert from Canada now living in the Ukraine, he discussed the fear, being disseminated by the media, about the safety of the beef meat supply and more especially the addition of ‘pink slime’ into ground beef. 

This post is well worth reading, and presents the argument for safely obtaining the maximum food product from a beef animal.   He also makes the passive argument that such hyped scare tactics financially effects beef suppliers and results in businesses failing and the loss of jobs (at a time when unskilled jobs are critical.)

I do concede the point that the maximum product should be extracted from a commercial beef animal (animal suffering and killing aside – we are by nature omnivores and the demand for meat will continue.)  

I also concede that with the world population doubling every forty years food production on a commercial scale will soon become the only way to supply the food needs of the countless billions.  

I do believe, however, that our food (and water – a need for another post) have had unintended effects on the human body.  

When I was young, a boy six foot tall was considered unusually tall.  Today, when I attend the gym at the local university I notice a large percentage of the young men are six-four or larger.  The bulk of many school age children seems massive compared the children of my day; and, I have heard statements that young girls are reaching puberty at a much younger age.    All of this, I believe, is the consequence of growth hormones that are regularly added to the commercial animals that compose our meat supply.  

Doctors are concerned about humans building up immunity to antibiotics; and yet eighty percent of our antibiotics are supplied to our meat industry and administered to the animals we eat. 

The reality is that people will have to come to terms with the manipulation of food animals in order to produce the maximum weight in the shortest time; the processing of animals to obtain the maximum yield of edible product from each animal; and, we will have to accept the problems and solutions inherent with large numbers of animals being raised in confined or limited spaces.  

Because small family farms can not compete with industrial farming, we may be the last generation to appreciate clean, organic, locally raised products available at an affordable price. 

Commercial food production is conducted for a maximum profit margin – but it must have independent oversight in order to insure a safe product.  This is a scary thought when today the Republican Party is hell-bent to defund the Food and Drug Administration that is charged with the oversight of our food production.
