ASK A JEW ABOUT THE OLE TESTAMENT

YOU MIGHT ASK A JEW ABOUT  CHRISTIAN  FUNDAMENTALIST BELIEF IN THE OLD TESTAMENT.   HE CAN GIVE YOU AN ANSWER; BUT REMEMBER - IN THE END,  HIS ANSWER WILL STILL BE STEEPED IN RELIGIOUS BULLSHIT.

I just posted about a letter-to-the-editor I wrote on religion.    It brought this clip to mind.

The Bible was written as a fable to control people; a story with a moral, for a people who lived in the desert and for whom a wheelbarrow was cutting edge technology.   That there are people today that take it literally is fucking nuts.   Like Black, I can't be gracious.

Science facts and religion are not compatable.  Either you live in a world of makebelileve, or you live in the real world.

  1. I once overheard a man I respected in a technical field explain to a colleague how 'they read the bible & found the world was only 600 years old' (600 years is what I remember him saying & my memory is imperfect at the best of times).

I was a little shocked... but that odd belief did not seem to affect his calls on the aircraft maintenance.

FWIW in my opinion science (these days) is the new religion.

    1. you are right Rob, I have known a number of fundamentalist Christians as well as other religious persons who were good at their jobs.
But, Science is not a religion. A religion requires faith. Science is the systematic study of the world around us. Religions have produced nothing. Science is responsible for all the technology we enjoy in our life. Science is testable - religion is not.

  2. Science is not a religion, because if a scientific theory is disproved, it is scrapped. Although I guess theoretically Jesus scrapped some tenets of the Old Testament, most of it -- including its creation story -- is still accepted by way too many people.

COMMENT: Ben Franklin said, "I imagine a man must have a good deal of vanity who believes, and a good deal of boldness who affirms, that all doctrines he holds are true, and all he rejects are false."
