Newfoundland is a different culture: a different mind set.

If you haven't seen the movie The Shipping News you should check out your video provider...It is worth a viewing.   A real insight to life in Newfoundland and the Newfoundland people.

One of my most favorite movies.

the Ol'Buzzard

  1. "The Shipping News" is one of my all-time faves too. One of my favourite Canadian actors, Gordon Pinsent, was in it -- the crusty old newspaperman who teaches Quoil (or however his name was spelled) how to write headlines. Brilliant script and acting. LOVED Judy Dench in it too.

  2. That was a good movie, just different enough.

  3. I read the book first and this was one of the few times where I thought the movie was better. I really liked it also.

  4. That was great. I have to check out the book and movie. I'm sure you know there is an entire genre of NOOFY jokes in Canada! Here's one!
Did you hear about the war between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia? The
Newfies were lobbing hand grenades; the Nova Scotians were pulling the
    pins and throwing them back.

COMMENT: Ben Franklin said, "I imagine a man must have a good deal of vanity who believes, and a good deal of boldness who affirms, that all doctrines he holds are true, and all he rejects are false."
