GOD AND THE FLORIDA HURICANE

LINK: SALVATION ARMY HURRICANE RELIEF

Saturday on a Lester Holt TV news broadcast about expected hurricane damage, the news reporter in Florida interviewed a man walking his dog outside of one of the public shelters. The man was retired and had recently bought property in Florida; he and his wife had had time to evacuate but decided to ride out the storm at one of the shelters.  When asked if he was worried the man responded that their safety ‘was in God’s hands.’

What the fuck?   A class four hurricane barreling down on you with death and destruction predicted in its wake…   But God is looking after you?

Un-fucking-believable.

We must take care of stupid people along with everybody else.  I urge everyone that can, donate to the Salvation Army, because 100% of your donation will go to flood relief victims.

  1. I saw one even dumber than that. An elderly lady being interviewed as to why she wasn't evacuating..."because I have Jesus by my side and I ain't worried". She lived in a house trailer. A FUCKING HOUSE TRAILER. You know, the kind built to withstand 175 mph winds.

  2. As it flies through the air, am I right Jadedj? I just don't understand the mentality of religious people. They have been so badly brainwashed that it's unbelievable.

    1. Yes...that's it. The "waiting for Jesus Deeeluxe Special Model". Rated 5 star for riding out monster hurricanes, or getting raptured in.

  3. There's an old joke about a religious man being told to evacuate before a flood. He turns down the advice, says Jesus will save him, then as the waters rise refuses a ride out on an Army truck, in a boat, and a rescue by helicopter. He drowns. He then gets to speak with God and asks why the Lord didn't save him. The answer: "You moron! I sent someone to warn you, then sent a truck, a boat, and a helicopter. How fucking stupid are you?"

  5. The Salvation Army is evangelical and does (at least around here) require its recipients to buy into Christianity.

    1. I have been on search and rescues and forest fires where the Salvation Army gave out blankets and food, water and coffee without any strings attached. At their soup kitchens they may proselytize, but at emergency disasters they just give.
Religion is the root of most evil in the world, but I give to the Salvation Army.

COMMENT: Ben Franklin said, "I imagine a man must have a good deal of vanity who believes, and a good deal of boldness who affirms, that all doctrines he holds are true, and all he rejects are false."
